About Us |
Australian Marine Technologies has a unique depth of experience, gained through every stage of the most successful ANZAC Ship Project for the RAN. The ANZAC
Project design role of AMT commenced nearly two years before Blohm + Voss was nominated as the successful ANZAC Ship designer and continues to this day.
The skills and experience gained are now also applied to other RAN platforms such as LPAs, FFGs, Armidale Patrol Boats, the Sail Training Ship Young Endeavour
and HMAS TOBRUK, directly in design and production engineering for configuration changes and in the development of supporting documentation such as test procedures,
maintenance plans and spares assessments.
AMT Staff were also involved in the design stage of the Hydrographic Ship Project providing ship and system integration expertise to STN Atlas Australia for
the integration of the Hydrographic Suite on the ships.
Another success for AMT was its design for the conversion of a product tanker (37,000 tonnes DWT) to the role of Auxiliary Oiler (AO) for the RAN,
meeting the operational, performance and availability requirements specified in the Navy’s Mission System Specification and the Lloyds Register Classification
requirements, including Naval notation. This project provides a further demonstration of AMT’s practical and deep experience in operating under the RAN
Technical Regulatory system and with Classification Societies in major Projects.

AMT has undertaken direct support to Acquisition Programs in engineering investigations, technical analysis and provided independent project assessment and
engineering support services to various Commonwealth projects. These include the ANZAC War-fighting Improvement Program, the development of the Function and
Performance Specification (FPS) for the Air Warfare Destroyer System Program Office (AWDSPO) and the provision of support services for the acquisition by the
Commonwealth of the base ship for the Westralia Replacement Program. AMT has most recently supported the Defence Capability Branch in the performance of an
Options Study to support First Pass of the HMAS SUCCESS Replacement Program.
AMT has also assisted the Commonwealth by acting as a direct resource and representing DMO when dealing with contractors/primes. Examples include
producing Statements of Work used in Commonwealth RFQs for production contracts, providing TEMPEST Control Officer services and on-site Project Management,
overseeing the production contractor as a representative of the Commonwealth. AMT is currently providing Project Assessment and Engineering Support services to
DMO in the LHD Project, encompassing design review, technical and risk investigation and certification services.
AMT is currently contracted to the Customs and Border Protection Service as an Engineering Support Agency, providing engineering and evaluation support to its
SOMPARC Program—the replacement of the Oceanic Viking.
AMT personnel have a range of backgrounds including formal training in Submarine design, technical evaluation of Collins Class contenders during the NCSM Program,
Collins Class In-Service Support and Oberon Class operational and technical support. AMT has affiliations through its Directors to a wider range of submarine
expertise.
