AMT Designs for Australia's new Auxiliary Oiler - the Delos Conversion | |

15 March 2005 - Royal Australian Navy Project SEA1654 Phase 2A calls for the conversion of the MT Delos to a role of RAN
Auxiliary Oiler (AO). The project completes in mid 2006, with the acceptance of what will become HMAS SIRIUS, a replacement for the
tanker HMAS WESTRALIA. The conversion task was competitively bid by the DMO with Tenix announced as the preferred tenderer on
14th February 2004. The successful Tenix submission has the majority of the design and engineering work to be performed in Melbourne
by Australian Marine Technologies, with the production work being done at the Common User Facility at Henderson and Tenix's
Western Australia Shipyard.
AMT has been contracted by Tenix Marine to provide professional naval design services for the principal and detail design of the
conversion, including a full Replenishment at Sea CONREP facility, a limited aviation capability and significant platform systems,
accommodation and outfit changes to meet the operational, performance and availability requirements specified in the Navy's Mission
System Specification. This is a significant and extensive upgrade which also provides valuable and timely experience for AMT in the
evolving RAN Technical Regulatory environment.
This represents a major opportunity for Australian Marine Technologies to further develop its design capability, at an ideal time for
Australia. The completion of the design for the major elements of the Delos conversion will coincide perfectly with the increase in
demand for Design and engineering services for the coming RAN Air Warfare Destroyer Project. Additionally, AMT will be unique in Australia
in having such direct experience that can be applied to the future RAN LHD Project.
