Tanker Study

AMT provided design support services to DMO involving the Specification of a commercial tanker that could be used as the most cost effective basis for conversion to a role of RAN fleet tanker (Auxiliary Oiler). This involved the review of RAN operational and regulatory requirements in conjunction with a detailed review and understanding of classification society regulations and the identification of the major changes required. AMT delivered a Base Ship Specification, a Preliminary List of Modifications and associated cost estimate as well as Modification Specifications for typical work packages for the subsequent conversion.

The base ship specification was utilised by the Commonwealth in its search for a suitable commercial tanker. AMT reviewed a number of potential options against the Base Ship Specification and the Modification Lists and advised on their suitability. As a result of the search, the Commonwealth selected and purchased the MT Delos as the base ship which after modification would become the HMAS WESTRALIA replacement.
